From 18 to 29 November 2024 the national certification exercise SAMSON 2024 took place in accordance with the preparation plan of the Special Operations Forces Command (SOFCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. This important exercise was aimed at testing the tactical and operational level of the SOF, and its successful completion was an important step towards the certification of the units.
      The main objective of SAMSON 2024 was to test the units' ability and readiness to perform complex tasks in planned operations. In addition, emphasis was placed on the development of cooperation between subordinate units of the Air Force and between subordinate units of the SOFCOM, thus ensuring smooth coordination in the deployment of forces and assets.
      The exercise was conducted on two levels - operational and tactical. The operational level involved the resolution of model situations simulating unexpected and challenging scenarios. The task of the intervening units was to react in real time, which required a high degree of flexibility, precision and decision-making under pressure. These activities also provided an opportunity to practise the activities of the command's officers in planning, directing and executing operations on home territory in support of subordinate units. The tactical part of the exercise focused on the actual execution of the planned operations under the expert supervision of the EXCON (Exercise Control) team. Units were tested in the decision making process in specific situations, with an emphasis on the practical application of acquired knowledge and skills. Scenarios were developed to validate tactics, techniques and procedures essential for effective mission handling in a variety of environments and situations.
      Exercise SAMSON 2024 demonstrated a good level of readiness of the certified units. These results verified the ability to respond operationally to various challenges and also set new standards for future training, which will bring new requirements for equipment and material replenishment.
     The lessons learnt will serve as a basis for planning and refining future training activities, with a focus on continuously improving inter-unit cooperation and the ability to operate in a coordinated manner under realistic operational conditions.
      Exercise SAMSON 2024 not only achieved its objectives, but also confirmed the SOF's commitment to progress in the field of modern training and readiness at the highest level.
